Dev Log 4: Combat!


Small update on RE-Birth combos and general tips!

The RE-Birth system is a combat feature that allows players to queue up multiple abilities at once. But by combining certain skills, you can get new, more powerful abilities! However, you have to target the same enemy to get the full effect of a RE-Birth skill. For example, if Rina attacks a weakened Cultist Mage with Rending Flash and finishes him off, she will use Crescent Moon on the next available foe so the Twin Dragon Strike skill will not proc. In other words, use RE-Birth skills on foes with full HP!

Rina RE-Birth commands: (all require two actions or RBP)


Twin Dragon Strike: Rending Flash + Crescent Moon

Medium damage to all foes. Inflicts ‘Slashed’’ [DEF -50%, HP Regen -20%, Phys. DMG +150%]

Moonlit Blade: Crescent Moon + Gloaming Slash

User instantly gains 100 TP.

Tranquil Heart: Gloaming Slash + Kaguya

User gains Tranquil Heart. Gain State Resist and Attack Times +2


Graceful Requiem: Rending Flash + Kaguya

All allies gain Graceful Requiem [HP Regen +100%, MP Regen +100%, TP Regen +100&, Status Ailment Blocked]

Ramiel RE-Birth commands: (all require two actions or RBP)

Heavenfall: Empyrean Light + Godhand

Deals heavy damage to all foes.

Holy Wall: Seraphim Blessing + Godhand

Reduce magic reduction by 50%. All allies recover 25% HP and MP and gain 15 TP.

OUGI: Requires 100TP


Other combat tips: 

- Abuse the Ice Crystals as they inflict "Frozen" on a target. The Fire Crystals are good for reducing Defence and the Thunder Crystals reduce MaxHP. All crystals inflict 333 static or plain damage. Plain damage cannot be blocked. The can be crafted from the main menu.


- Use the RE-Birth command in conjunction with items and abilities! Don't just focus on raw damage because if one foe decides to pile their attacks on just one character, it's a guaranteed KO unless Ramiel's Wing's Embrace (gives Auto-Life) is active.

The combat system is designed to be raw, brutal and ultimately, flexible. The Endwalkers are the equivalent of demi-gods in the mortal realm and no mortal can go up against them alone unless assisted by some higher power.

 Rina's solo battle against these hordes will make sense when you view the final scene. I wanted to find a way to tie story-gameplay together and one of my main tenets of Guilty Red's design are that the characters combat-abilities reflect their abilities lore-wise. Rina, as former hitokiri, was known as the most powerful swordswoman in the skies at one point. Combined with her superhuman strength and speed, her "power level" so to speak, is on a higher level than a typical mortal. 

So maybe in the future I will come up with different power-scales for our heroes and villains as well as a tiering system. For examples, Archons and Archangels such as Ramiel would be S-tier, Rina would maybe be B+ while a normal mortal would rank around D or lower (like Aya, who has no extraordinary abilities apart from her marksmanship).

So that's my updated for now. I'll start giving more info on characters in about-- 3 days time! ^^
